“Knowing God and Knowing Oneself Grow in Proportion”
🪧 Topic: “Knowing God and Knowing Oneself Grow in Proportion”
✨ The More You Know God, the More Deeply You Understand Yourself
“Knowing God is the path to truly knowing oneself.”
🪞 1. Why Is Knowing God Connected to Self-Awareness?
Every person lives with the question, “Who am I?”
But this question cannot be fully answered apart from knowing God.
The path to truly understanding ourselves begins with the knowledge of our Creator.
This is because we are created in the image of God (Imago Dei) (Genesis 1:27).
Trying to understand oneself without knowing God is like trying to see your face in a room with no mirror.
📖 2. Biblical Foundations
📌 (1) True self-knowledge begins with the knowledge of God
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.”
— Psalm 139:1
As David grows in his knowledge of God, he becomes more aware of his own existence before God.
“Now that you know God—or rather are known by God…”
— Galatians 4:9
Our true identity begins with the truth that we are known by God.
📌 (2) Confusion arises when we seek self without God
“Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being...”
— Romans 1:22–23
When we turn from God, we end up distorting our identity and embracing a false self.
📌 (3) We can only know our true selves in God
“Your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
— Colossians 3:3
We are hidden in God—and it is only by knowing Him that we can discover who we truly are.
💡 3. Real-Life Applications (Before & After Knowing God)

Mistakes and wounds define who I am | God’s grace works even through my weakness |
Confusion about “Who am I?” | Awareness of being God’s child and His masterpiece |
Success is seen solely as the result of my skill, effort, and merit | All talents and opportunities are recognized as gifts from God, leading to humility |
Feeling superior for being in a better position than others | Learning love and service instead of comparison, seeing others as image-bearers of God |
Life and future must stay under my total control | Planning and living with surrender under God's will and guidance |
Emphasizing personal autonomy: “I am self-made” | Embracing spiritual identity: “I belong to God” |
